Just a few yards from famed Fifth Avenue, you will find the Wildlife Conservation Society's Central Park Zoo. From small frogs to polar bears, there are over 130 species at the Central Park Zoo. The zoo's five acres are carefully divided into three different zones, careful to conserve the most natural habitat for its inhabitants.
When visiting the Temperate Territory, one will find the California Sea Lion tank at the center of the exhibit. Swan Geese, Mandarin Ducks and the North American River Otter are just a few more of the water-bound animals found here. The Temperate Territory is also home to Japanese Macaques, also known as the snow monkey, and Red Pandas.
Take a walk through the Tropic Zone to see an amazing collection of tropical birds. Southeastern Asia's Fairy Blue Bird and Southern Australia's Scarlet-chested Parrot are just two of the aviary residents in this section. If your interests are for "squirmy things," you will find frogs, toads, snakes, and lizards amongst several others. The Colobus Monkeys also make their home in the Tropic Zone, as do three different species of Tamarins.
It may get a little chilly, but for residents of the Arctic Zone, it's just right. Two of Central Park Zoo's most popular residents are their Polar Bears, Ida and Gus. Next to the Polar Bear habitat you can view the Arctic Fox sharing its residence with the Harbor Seal. A trip to the Arctic Zone is not complete without a visit to the Ice Pack Building, which houses Tufted Puffins and sixty-one Chinstrap and Gentoo Penguins making it a family favorite.
Admission to Wildlife Center includes admission to Children's Zoo.
